How many of you watched south indian Tamil movie –  Aayirathil Oruvan??? If not, don’t miss the interesting movie, watch it now.

North Sentinel Island is one of the Andaman Islands, which includes South Sentinel Island, in the Bay of Bengal. It is home to the Sentinelese who, often violently, reject any contact with the outside world, and are among the last people worldwide to remain virtually untouched by modern civilization. As such, only limited information about the island is known.

North Sentinel Island, however, is unlike any other. It has been described as ‘the hardest place in the world to visit’, ‘the world’s most dangerous island’ and home to ‘the most isolated tribe in the world’.

Name : North sentinel Island

Location – Indian Ocean

Home to the Sentinelese tribe

Just imaging a day without mobiles!! without dress !! Nothing..

  • They may well be the last humans left on the planet who remain totally isolated from modern civilization and prefer to have zero contact with the outside world.

  • Located in the Bay of Bengal, North Sentinel Island belongs to India and remains an enigma, despite being populated for an estimated 60,000 years.
  • Untouched by modern civilisation, very little is known about the Sentinelese people, their language, their rituals and the island they call home.

Rajendra Chola I (1014 – 1044), one of the Tamil Chola dynasty kings, conquered the Andaman and Nicobar Islands to use them as a strategic naval base to launch a naval expedition against the Sriwijaya Empire (a Buddhist empire based in the island of Sumatra, Indonesia). They called the islands Tinmaittivu (“Valour/Truth/Strength islands” in Tamil).

Later Maratha empire, British & now finally India.

  • The last recorded contact with the Sentinelese was in 2006, when the Sentinelese archers killed two fishermen who were fishing illegally within range of the island.

Contact with outside world

  • Some government-sponsored groups made brief trips to the island in the late 1980s and early ’90s, largely under the direction of the Indian anthropologist T.N. Pandit.

  • Mr. Pandit and his colleagues left gifts of coconuts, knives, cloth, candy, aluminum cookware, mirrors, rubber balls, beaded necklaces, plastic buckets.

Due to their complete isolation, the chances of them being wiped out by an epidemic are very high!!!
